We’re Decker Design

Our mission

The Decker Design team is an integrated collective of strategists, designers, writers, developers and analysts who build brands with impact. Our mission is to help law firms, non-profits, foundations and other established organizations better harness the power of design to support their businesses.

Led by award-winning designer Lynda Decker, our office engages side-by-side with client partners to explore the dynamics of the markets in which they operate and uncover unexpected and creative solutions to their problems. We call our framework Responsive Branding, which you can read more about here. Our team creates flexible brand systems that adapt to captivate and influence audiences, to achieve strategic business objectives for ambitious clients.

To stand out, your company must embrace creativity with a distinctive voice. This requires effort, skill and collaboration. It means taking risks and investing in quality assets. Amid a crowded market, your brand should be known for its unique identity. We can help you find and express it.

Our process

We begin by evaluating a brand’s personality and identifying the potential for its growth and evolution. Our team looks at it from both an internal and external perspective and against its competitive environment. The findings are presented with next step recommendations to address the potential opportunities.

A communication effort can take many forms and involve multiple levels of visual, verbal and media tools. The Discovery process is critical to create a successful plan and practical next steps.

Our value

Decker engages with a limited number of clients due to the depth and commitment of our relationships. Our specialized focus in the legal, non-profit, and social impact industries allows us to support our clients in bold ways throughout the entire branding process, providing value that often generates long-standing partnerships and collaboration.

We also work within certain financial guidelines to ensure the quality of our work. Our minimum annual engagement is $50,000 in agency fees, with most clients spending between $150,000 and $350,000. Our minimum initial engagement is $35,000.

Our story

When our President and Creative Director Lynda Decker started Decker Design in 1996, she sought out to establish a new kind of creative agency—one that blended the wit of advertising with the discipline of design. Using her past experience at big agencies like Wells, Rich, Greene, McCaffrey & McCall and Backer Spielvogel Bates, combined with small studios like Lubalin Peckolick Associates, and Pushpin, our female founder set out on a 20-year mission to build better, smarter businesses with strategic insights and a penchant for unparalleled creativity.

Early clients at Decker Design included Chase, Urban Archaeology and IBM.

Later, after recognizing the importance of the written word to the design world, Lynda headed back to college, earning an MFA in Design Criticism at the School of Visual Arts, all while continuing to manage the helm at Decker Design.

Since then, Decker Design has grown exponentially in size and scope, eventually evolving into a full-service print and digital design studio in the heart of NYC’s Flatiron District. Our current focus aims to build leading public impact brands through research, writing and beautifully-crafted design solutions.

Clients we’ve recently worked with include Boies Schiller Flexner, International Paper and the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership.

In addition to her work with clients, our founder Lynda is dedicated to the advancement of the design profession, serving as co-chair of the AIGA Women’s Leadership Initiative Steering Committee and as a former vice-president and longtime member of the AIGA NY Chapter. She is also passionate about supporting environmental issues. Because of this, Decker Design is currently collaborating with the Waterfront Alliance, which works on environmental and public policy issues related to our waterways.
