Decker Design

Our mission

The Decker Design team is an integrated collective of strategists, designers, writers, developers and analysts who build brands with impact. Our mission is to help law firms, non-profits, foundations and other established organizations better harness the power of design to support their businesses.

We’ve been in business over 20 years and collaboration is an integral part of how we work. Led by award-winning designer, writer and critic Lynda Decker, we work side by side with our clients through a series of workshops, using a number of design thinking methodologies to uncover strategic answers to their problems.

Great work happens with great clients—which is why we bring clients into the creative process through collaborative workshops. You are the experts on your business—we are the experts in communication and design and can provide you with the guidance you need to launch a successful project, program or initiative.

Our process

We begin by evaluating a brand’s personality and identifying the potential for its growth and evolution. In a kick-off workshop, we engage all stakeholders in discussing the issues at hand. Additionally, we interview individuals that can highlight user needs and market forces—such as clients and customers or community members.

Communication audits, user research and a gap analysis contribute to our strategic insights. We understand that in service businesses, differentiation is often not obvious, so it is necessary to probe and ask questions in order for distinctions to reveal themselves. We conduct a revelatory strategy workshop based on our insights and recommendations. Our findings often surprise our clients, so the opportunity to test scenarios collaboratively helps clarify the path forward.

Once the strategy is determined, our team begins to explore design concepts. While each project has a lead designer, we continue to work with a collaborative methodology. Art and copy work hand-in-hand as ideas are developed, and we embrace input from our photographers, developers and printers. Unlike other agencies, we work with a core group of technologists that has known one another for years—they aren’t vendors; they are key members of our team. After implementation we evaluate the outcome, at which point clients often ask us to extend the engagement.
